  • Assisted management NobisBV (2018, 2019)
  • Set up and built website Wetropolis.nl and acts as webmaster (2018 – 2019), wrote several blog articles
  • Designed with Onno Bokhove and built Leeds Aire River foam models with CNC mill (2016 – 2019)
  • Designed with Onno Bokhove and improved Arduino electronics and code, sensors, galton board and hydraulical functionality of Leeds model (2016-2019)
  • Coded Grasshopper scripts (Rhino3D plugin) to import local topographical information from AHN (algemene hoogtekaart Nederland) and Open Street Map in Rhino (3D modelling program) (2019). Used in “Gorssel” model
  • Discussed and developed with JanJaap Wietsma (Pre-U) plan for NLT – use of Wetropolis
  • Developed and evaluated plaster model of Gorssel: milled river model in foam, cast silicon reproduction mold, casted plaster reproductions for evaluation (2018),
  • Investigated weather quicker, easier material to work with than plaster would be feasible (2019). This resulted in Lego and polystyrene models.
  • Developed, tested and evaluated Lego waterscapes at Maker Fairs Eindhoven 2018 and Enschede (2019), Willemschool Hengelo (2019), Culturele zondag Enschede (2019), Expeditie Next Rotterdam (2019)
  • Built LEGO version Galton board –(2019) compatible to existing Arduinosketch for Galton Board
  • Used Dino (subsoil) information to make subsoil model (2019) and validated this model against available data of “kwelwater”(2019)
  • Developed handcut river shape in foam with adjustable hot wire foam cutter (2019), (“Zwolle”model)
  • Experimented with sand in foam models to show sedimentation
  • Started “Enschede” subsoil model made of polystyrene, machined with laser to give it hydraulical characteristics (2019)


  • Investigated and evaluated how to visualize groundwater aimed at outreach and education
  • Worked with Saxion students International Water Technology on surface and subsurface water subjects and prototyping methods (work in progress)
  • Made foam model “IJssel” for NLT conference
  • Developed foam model “Stuwrug Enschede” for interactive, hands-on hydrogeological demo model. It is a layered model of the subsoil, with laser cut holes for specific hydraulic permeability. Works with water.
  • presented foam-cut model (NLT model) at Maker Fair Eindhoven and tested how it worked with children (wire cutter and instructions, reusable support of cut models, add water with pump or manually)

Work in progress 2022

  • Copy the Leeds model for use in Netherland as demo, eventually with slightly different “concept geography”
  • Refine Galton board for continuous use, refine Lego version to enable easier construction of the Galton board
  • Improve ways of obtaining topograhical data for model making. That implies Arcgis or Qgis, use of subsoil data (Dinoloket), combining these to a cad / laser cutting model. This is a lot of work and finding data here and there. A good manual , description and a properly working cad plugin / algorithm (written for use in Rhino Grasshopper) are being developed.
  • The project stops end of 2022.
